the project
Concept
This e-publication for "A Modest Proposal" by Dr. Jonathan Swift was so much fun to illustrate. For a work that is so casually dark, I wanted to contrast that with illustrations that may be found in a children's book to further emphasize the irony conveyed in the "proposal."
Typesetting & Layout
One purpose of this project was to practice setting type and formatting text layout in a long form, multi-page document. In addition, this project helped me practice the different ways to create and utilize different character and paragraph styles.
Illustration
Because the goal was to illustrate the essay with images reminiscent of a children's book, the illustrations use bright colors and simple shapes. The custom title typography was intentionally left "bubbly" and childish as well, the letterforms drawn in a similar way that a child might.
